South Delhi Residents Protest Against Government Over Damaged Roads and Waterlogging

Residents of Aya Nagar in South Delhi protested against the Delhi Government and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Sunday. They were upset about damaged roads and persistent waterlogging in their area. The locals raised slogans against the Delhi Government, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, MCD, Chhattarpur MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar, and Aya Nagar Ward Commissioner Sheetal Chaudhary. They also demanded the resignation of Kartar Singh Tanwar and Sheetal Chaudhary.

Since Thursday, heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning has affected several areas of Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram. This has led to waterlogging and heavy traffic jams in many places, including Sarita Vihar, Connaught Place, Palam Airport, Okhla Phase 2, and Dhaula Kuan. While the rain has brought relief from the heat, it has also caused significant problems.

Tragically, two children drowned in a deep rainwater ditch in the New Usmanpur area of Delhi on Friday. The boys, aged 8 and 10, were playing in the rainwater when the incident occurred. In another incident, three laborers died when an under-construction wall collapsed in the Vasant Vihar area. The collapse was worsened by the heavy rainfall, which also caused two trees to fall into the basement pit where the laborers’ temporary huts were located.

Additionally, a person died at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport when a portion of a canopy at a departure terminal collapsed amid the heavy rains. All flight operations from Terminal 1 are suspended until further notice, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
