South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt Praises Young Spinner Seshnie Naidu Ahead of T20 World Cup
South Africa Women’s cricket captain Laura Wolvaardt praised 18-year-old leg-spinner Seshnie Naidu, who has been selected for the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and a series against Pakistan. Naidu, who impressed in the 2023 U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, is set to make her debut in the T20I series starting 16 September.
Wolvaardt expressed excitement about Naidu’s potential, saying, “Very exciting young player. Hopefully, she gets a game, I think that will be awesome, especially if we have her in mind playing in the T20 World Cup.” Wolvaardt added that facing Naidu in the nets showed her good control for a young leg-spinner.
Wolvaardt also hopes the T20I series against Pakistan will help finalize their playing XI for the World Cup, providing valuable match experience. Another young player, 20-year-old seamer Ayanda Hlubi, may also debut in the series.
South Africa is in Group B at the Women’s T20 World Cup, with matches against Bangladesh, England, Scotland, and West Indies. Their campaign begins on 4 October against the Windies.
