South Africa’s Coach Hopes Quinton de Kock Will Continue in T20 Cricket
South Africa’s white-ball coach, Rob Walter, is hopeful that opening batter Quinton de Kock will continue to play T20 cricket. De Kock recently faced disappointment in the T20 World Cup final against India, where South Africa lost despite a strong start.
De Kock retired from Test cricket in 2021 and from ODIs last year. There are speculations about his retirement from T20s, but he has not confirmed anything yet. Walter mentioned, “Quinny’s an enigma. He hasn’t officially called time. So we have that little glimmer of hope that sits in the background.”
South Africa’s next T20I series is against the West Indies in August, but de Kock is not on the contract list, meaning he is not obliged to play. Walter has not had any conversations with de Kock about his future availability. The first T20I of the three-match series will be on August 24 at Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
