South African Navy Visits Indian Naval Command in Kochi

A nine-member delegation from the South African Navy, led by Rear Admiral (Junior Grade) Nevielie Kurt Howell, visited the Headquarters Sea Training at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi, India, from October 21 to 31. The visit aimed to enhance naval training cooperation between the South African and Indian navies.

Purpose of the Visit

The delegation’s visit focused on improving bilateral naval training through Operational Sea Training of ships and submarines, conducted by the Indian Navy’s FOST Organisation. The head of the delegation met with Rear Admiral Upul Kundu, Chief of Staff at the Southern Naval Command, and Rear Admiral Srinivas Maddula, Flag Officer Sea Training, to discuss enhancing professional engagement between the two navies.

Activities and Highlights

The visit included exposure to Harbour and Sea training activities, visits to various training schools, and familiarisation with simulators. The delegation also witnessed demonstrations of Damage Control and Firefighting. These activities aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Indian Naval Work Up Team’s operations in Kochi.

The successful visit opens new avenues for training cooperation and strengthens the professional relationship between the South African and Indian navies. This collaboration highlights the Indian Navy’s role as a preferred training partner in the Indian Ocean Region.
