South Africa’s cricket team, led by Aiden Markram, achieved a historic win against Afghanistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal. Marco Jansen, who was named ‘Player of the Match,’ delivered an outstanding bowling performance, taking three wickets and conceding only 16 runs in three overs.

Afghanistan, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, struggled against South Africa’s bowlers. Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen reduced Afghanistan to 28/6. Despite efforts from Karim Janat and Rashid Khan, Afghanistan was bowled out for just 56 runs in 11.5 overs. Tabraiz Shamsi and Marco Jansen were the top bowlers, each taking three wickets.

In the run-chase, South Africa lost Quinton de Kock early but Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram guided the team to victory in just 8.5 overs. Hendricks scored 29* and Markram added 23*.

With this win, South Africa broke their winless streak in World Cup semifinals and reached their first-ever final. They will face the winner of the second semifinal, either India or England, at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
