Sophie Devine Stays with Perth Scorchers for Two More Seasons in WBBL
New Zealand Women’s cricket captain Sophie Devine will continue playing for the Perth Scorchers in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) for the next two seasons. Devine had an outstanding last season, scoring 489 runs and taking 14 wickets. She is the third-highest run-scorer in WBBL history.
Devine said, “For me, coming back to Perth was a no-brainer. I have built such a special connection with the players and staff over the past four seasons, and I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.”
The Scorchers have also acquired Mikayla Hinkley from Brisbane Heat and had English players Amy Jones, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Lauren Winfield-Hill last season. Due to her busy international schedule, Sciver-Brunt will not participate this season. The WBBL starts seven days after the Women’s T20 World Cup, and there is also an England tour of South Africa in late November.
