Sonam Uttam Maskar Shines with Silver at ISSF World Cup Final in New Delhi
On the first day of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final 2024, held at the Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi, India’s Sonam Uttam Maskar secured a silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event. This marked her first medal at the World Cup Final level and India’s first medal of the competition.
Sonam, who had previously won two silver medals at the Cairo World Cup, delivered an impressive performance, finishing just 1.6 points behind China’s Huang Yuting, the Paris Olympic gold medallist. Huang set a world and junior world record with a score of 254.5. France’s Oceanne Muller took the bronze medal.
The event saw China dominate three of the four finals, with France’s Camille Jedrzejewski winning the women’s 10m air pistol event. India’s Tilottama Sen finished sixth in the women’s 10m air rifle final, while Germany’s Anna Janssen set a new world record in qualification.
In the men’s events, China’s Sheng Lihao and Xie Yu claimed gold in the 10m air rifle and air pistol finals, respectively. India’s Arjun Babuta and Arjun Cheema faced tough competition, finishing fifth and eighth in their respective events.
At the Shotgun range, Ganemat Sekhon led the Indian contingent in the women’s skeet, while Vivaan Kapoor secured second place in the men’s trap. The competition continues with more finals scheduled over the next two days.
