New Delhi [India], July 9: Star India batter Smriti Mandhana has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for June, surpassing England’s Maia Bouchier and Sri Lanka’s Vishmi Gunaratne. This is Mandhana’s first time winning this award in her international career.

Mandhana, known as one of the best top-order players in the world, showcased her skills during India’s clean sweep ODI series win over South Africa in Bengaluru and a stellar Test match in Chennai against the same opponent.

After winning the award, Mandhana said, “I’m glad to be named ICC Women’s Player of the Month for the month of June. I’m really happy with the way the team has performed and I’m happy to contribute for us, winning the ODI and the Test series. Hopefully we can continue our form, and I can even further contribute to win matches for India.”

Mandhana made centuries in the first two ODIs, scoring 113 and 136, and added another score of 90 in the third match. She then excelled in the Test match, scoring 149 runs and helping India secure a victory over South Africa. Mandhana and fellow opener Shafali Verma put on a 292-run partnership for the first wicket, leading to India’s declaration at 603/6. India won the Test match by 10 wickets.
