Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Chamari Athapaththu Nominated for ICC Player of the Month
New Delhi, August 5: Three top cricket players, Smriti Mandhana from India, Shafali Verma from India, and Chamari Athapaththu from Sri Lanka, have been nominated for the ICC Player of the Month award for July.
Smriti Mandhana
Smriti Mandhana has been nominated for the second consecutive month after winning the award in June. She scored a career-best 149 in a Test match against South Africa, forming a record-breaking 292-run partnership with Shafali Verma. Mandhana also scored 100 runs in the T20I series against South Africa and 173 runs in the Asia Cup, making her the top-scorer for India in the final.
Chamari Athapaththu
Chamari Athapaththu led Sri Lanka to a historic win in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, defeating seven-time champions India. She scored 304 runs in the tournament, including a career-best 119* against Malaysia and match-winning fifties against Pakistan and India. Athapaththu also took three wickets, including in the final against India.
Shafali Verma
Shafali Verma scored 229 Test runs and 245 T20I runs in July. She became the second Indian woman to hit a double century in Tests, scoring 205 runs in 194 balls. Verma also contributed significantly in the Asia Cup, scoring 200 runs with a strike rate of 140.84, including a career-best 81 from 48 balls against Nepal.
