India’s Women’s T20 World Cup Strategy
Smriti Mandhana on Net Run Rate and Team Priorities
In Dubai, Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana addressed India’s concerns about their Net Run Rate (NRR) before their match against Sri Lanka in the Women’s T20 World Cup. Group A is tightly contested, with four out of five teams having two points each. India is in a challenging position after a 58-run loss to New Zealand, despite an earlier win against Pakistan.
India’s current NRR is -1.217, placing them fourth in the group. Mandhana emphasized that while NRR is important, winning the match against Sri Lanka is the top priority. She explained that conditions in the UAE make quick scoring difficult, and the team is focused on balancing winning with improving NRR.
Team Strategy and Batting Lineup
India has experimented with their batting lineup, with changes based on match conditions. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues have both batted at number three in different matches. Mandhana noted that these decisions are made according to the situation and the team’s needs.
