NEET-UG 2024 Exam Controversy

Sitaram Yechury’s Statement

In New Delhi, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury has called for the National Testing Agency (NTA) to be scrapped due to irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 exam. He also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, accusing him of not taking moral responsibility for the issues.

Supreme Court’s Involvement

The Supreme Court has declined to halt the NEET-UG 2024 counselling process but has issued notices to the NTA and the Centre. The court is addressing multiple petitions related to alleged question paper leaks and other malpractices.

Student Concerns

Some students from the Meghalaya center lost 45 minutes during the exam and have requested to be included among the 1,563 students who received grace marks and the option to reappear for the exam on June 23.

Exam Results and Protests

The NEET-UG 2024 exam was held on May 5, with results announced on June 4. Protests erupted due to alleged irregularities and paper leaks, as 67 students achieved perfect scores. The Supreme Court has allowed a re-test for over 1,500 students who were given grace marks.

Future Steps

The NTA has informed the Supreme Court that the scorecards of the 1,563 candidates who received grace marks will be canceled, and these candidates can reappear for the exam or forgo the compensatory marks.
