Singapore to Host 2024 Chess World Championship: D Gukesh vs Ding Liren

The Singapore Chess Federation has been selected to host the 2024 FIDE World Championship Match. This exciting event will feature a showdown between India’s D Gukesh and the defending champion, Ding Liren from China.

Event Details

The match will take place from November 20 to December 15, 2024, and boasts a sensational prize fund of 2.5 million USD. Singapore was chosen over other competitive bids from New Delhi and Chennai in India.

FIDE’s Decision

FIDE, the International Chess Federation, reviewed bids and inspected potential host cities before selecting Singapore. FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich expressed delight, noting that this is the first time a World Championship match will be held in Singapore, a city known for its global significance and thriving chess community.

FIDE CEO Emil Sutovsky added that Singapore’s strategic thinking and planning make it a perfect match for hosting the championship. The final venue within Singapore will be announced soon.
