Singapore High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, expressed his sorrow over the landslides in Wayanad, Kerala, which claimed 143 lives. He shared his thoughts and prayers for those affected.

Rescue Operations Underway

Rescue operations are ongoing in Wayanad’s Chooralmala, involving the Army, Navy, Air Force, NDRF, police, and firefighters. The landslide caused significant damage, uprooting trees and damaging houses and roads.

Union Minister’s Visit

Union Minister George Kurian visited Wayanad to oversee relief efforts and interacted with senior officials. He also visited a relief camp at Kalpetta.

NDRF Efforts

NDRF Commander Akhilesh Kumar reported rescuing 70 people but warned of more potential landslides due to ongoing rainfall. Victims have been given shelter in a resort and a mosque.

Compensation Announced

The Prime Minister’s Office announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the victims and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
