Sindhi Foundation Protests in Houston for Kidnapped Hindu Girl Priya Kumari
On Monday, the Sindhi Foundation organized a protest in front of the Consulate General of Pakistan in Houston, Texas, demanding justice for Priya Kumari, a kidnapped Hindu girl. This was the fifth protest in the U.S. and Canada, with previous demonstrations held in the U.K., Switzerland, and Canada. The Sindhi Foundation urged the U.N. to investigate and free Priya.
Protest Led by Munawar ‘Sufi’ Laghari
Munawar ‘Sufi’ Laghari, Executive Director of the Sindhi Foundation, led the protest, traveling from Washington, D.C., along with the local Sindhi community in Houston. The protest highlighted the crime in Sindh, Pakistan, allegedly committed by the influential Syed family, including Federal Minister Khurshid Shah, Sindh Parliament Member Nasar Shah, and President Zardari.
Claims of Systematic Persecution
Protesters claimed that the crime was part of a larger campaign against the Hindu minority in Pakistan. They argued that the government, religious institutions, and military are creating conditions that force Hindus to flee to India. Young Hindu girls are often abducted, forcibly converted to Islam, and married off against their will.
Speakers Condemn Injustice
Speakers like Ghaffar Tabassum, Maqbool Channa, Asghar Pathan, Zakir Bullo, and Talat Talpur condemned the abduction and the systemic injustices faced by Sindh’s Hindu population. They called for justice and urged those with information about Priya Kumari’s whereabouts to come forward.
Call for Action
Munawar ‘Sufi’ Laghari criticized the Pakistani establishment for supporting those responsible for the crime. He called for an end to the oppression and for justice for Priya Kumari and her family.
