Sindhi Foundation Protests in New York for Missing Priya Kumari

The leaders and members of the Sindhi Foundation in New York organized a protest outside the Pakistani consulate demanding the return of the abducted minor Priya Kumari. The Sindhi Foundation, a Washington-based human rights body, reported this on Saturday.

Protest Details

Sufi Munawar Laghari, the Executive Director of the Sindhi Foundation, stated, “The Pakistani military and ISI must leave Sindh and Balochistan. They immediately must stop the genocide and enforced disappearances of Sindhis and Baloch. Their time is over.”

The protest was organized to commemorate the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances and focused on the disappearance of Priya Kumari, a minor Hindu girl abducted on August 19, 2021, who is still missing.

Speakers and Participants

The protest saw participation from the Sindhi community and intellectuals in New York City. Laghari announced a grand exhibition in Washington in November, showcasing the Sindhi Foundation’s years-long movement.

Zafar Javed, a Canada-based Baloch nationalist leader, said, “Pakistan is committing crimes against the human rights of Sindhis and Balochs. It is committing crimes against humanity.”

Sindhi nationalist leader Shoukat Sanjrani added, “Power elites of Punjab are exploiting Sindhis by plundering Sindh’s resources.”

Ghulam Nabi Unar, chairman of the Sindh Academic and Cultural Council, warned that Priya Kumari is a Sindhi and that Sindhis know how to protect their honor and human rights.

Cultural Expressions

Poet and human rights defender Hasan Mujtaba recited his famous poem ‘Song of Missing Persons’. Other prominent participants included poet and novelist Jani Abro, Ali Khaskheli, and Ghazanfar Rajpar.
