The Sindhi Foundation, a Washington, DC-based organization focused on the human rights of Sindhis, has reached out to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for assistance in locating Priya Kumari, a young Sindhi Hindu girl who was abducted three years ago.

Call for Help

Sufi Munawar Laghari, the executive director of the Sindhi Foundation and a well-known human rights activist from Sindh, made this announcement in a press release from Geneva. He stated, “The Sindhi diaspora is issuing an SOS call to the United Nations Human Rights Council to help us rescue an innocent minor Sindhi girl who has been missing for the last three years.”

Grave Concerns

Laghari emphasized that Priya Kumari is believed to be in the illegal custody of powerful Shahs of Sindh, supported by the Pakistani army. He highlighted the frequent abductions and forced conversions of Sindhi minor girls and young women as a serious issue in Sindh, calling for immediate UNHRC intervention.

Demands and Actions

Laghari demanded that the UNHRC pressure Pakistan to return Priya Kumari safely to her parents and take steps to stop the abductions and forced conversions. He also announced a demonstration on July 8th at the Broken Chair sculpture in front of the UNHRC building in Geneva to protest these issues.

Call for Support

Additionally, Laghari will present a memorandum to the chair of the UNHRC, detailing the atrocities against Sindhis in Sindh. He urged people and human rights organizations to join the demonstration and show their support for Priya Kumari and other abducted girls.
