The Sindh government has urged the Sindh High Court (SHC) to initiate a judicial inquiry into the death of Dr. Shahnawaz Kunbhar. Dr. Kunbhar was killed in a police encounter in Mirpurkhas city, Sindh, on September 19, after being accused of sharing blasphemous content on social media. Following the encounter, his body was handed to his family, but a mob set it on fire during the burial.

On September 26, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar revealed that an inquiry found the police encounter to be staged. The Sindh Home Department has requested the SHC to conduct a judicial inquiry to uncover the truth and hold responsible parties accountable. The inquiry is to be led by a serving high court judge.

The incident has sparked protests across Pakistan, with religious leaders demanding a fair investigation. Blasphemy laws in Pakistan are often misused, leading to violence against ethnic minorities.
