Islamabad, Pakistan – Sindh Energy Minister, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, announced on Wednesday that K-Electric will reduce load shedding in Karachi in the coming days. This decision follows numerous complaints from people across Pakistan, especially in Sindh, about excessive power outages.

Speaking to the media, the minister mentioned that K-Electric is working to decrease load-shedding times, particularly during night and peak hours, to provide relief to the public. An agreement was signed by the CEOs of K-Electric, NSCL, and STDC to construct a 40-megawatt power transmission line from Pipri Grid Station to NSCL at Port Qasim Authority.

The Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC) is the first license holder of the Provincial Grid Company (PGC) authorized to create transmission infrastructure for electricity at voltages of 132 KV and above. According to Nasir Shah, a 132 KV transmission line will carry 40 megawatts of power from K-Electric via STDC to the National Steel Complex.

Power outages have been a significant issue in cities like Quetta, Lahore, Peshawar, and Karachi, with utility providers citing maintenance needs and load management as reasons for the cuts. These outages have severely affected residents and shopkeepers, with urban areas of Peshawar experiencing load shedding for five to eight hours and rural areas facing cuts of up to fourteen to sixteen hours. In Lahore, areas like Allama Iqbal Town and Nishtar Town have reported six-hour outages.
