Shujaat Ali Quadri Speaks on Bangladesh’s Political Turmoil and Sheikh Hasina’s Resignation
New Delhi, August 7: Shujaat Ali Quadri, chairman of the Muslim Students Organisation of India (MSO), has expressed serious concerns about the political unrest in Bangladesh following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Quadri believes that the riots in Bangladesh are being instigated by an external enemy he referred to as a ‘White Man.’
Quadri highlighted that Sheikh Hasina’s government was pressured to dissolve, suggesting that state enemies orchestrated the unrest. He mentioned that a ‘White Man’ had approached the former PM with demands, including building a foreign airbase in Bangladesh. When these demands were not met, efforts to topple the government began, leading to fake protests.
Quadri explained that the current protests are centered around the issue of reservation, which was settled by the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in 2018. He claimed that social media posts with old, edited photos and videos falsely portrayed Sheikh Hasina as a dictator, and bot accounts on ‘X’ were used to damage her image.
Expressing his concerns over the violence against minorities in Bangladesh, Quadri condemned the attacks and urged the Indian government to take steps to protect minorities in Bangladesh. He also called on the upcoming government of Bangladesh to stop attacks on minorities and protect their properties and pilgrimage sites.
Bangladesh is currently facing a fluid political situation. On August 5, Sheikh Hasina resigned amid mounting protests led by students demanding an end to a quota system for government jobs. She arrived in India on Monday evening. On Tuesday, Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin announced the dissolution of the parliament to form an interim administration, with Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus appointed as the head of the interim government. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia has also been released from jail.
