Shri Jagannath Temple’s Treasure Trove Opened for Shifting Valuables

The inner Ratna Bhandar of Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri was opened today to shift valuables and ornaments to a temporary location. This process was carried out by an 11-member inspection committee led by Justice Biswanath Rath, following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Odisha government.

Puri Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain stated, “Jagannath Temple’s inner Ratna Bhandar was opened today following standard operating procedure (SOP) issued by the government of Odisha. 11 members of the inspection committee under the chairmanship of Justice Biswanath Rath entered the Shree Mandir for shifting the Ratna jewellery of the inner bhandar.”

Puri Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra added, “Security arrangements have been made for Jagannath Temple’s inner Ratna Bhandar opening. According to the following standard operating procedure (SOP) issued by the government of Odisha, we have made arrangements.”

The King of Puri, Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb, also visited the holy shrine today. He visited both the outer and inner Ratna Bhandar after they were opened. Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb said, “Ornaments of outer Ratna Bhandar already shifted earlier. Today, the ornaments of the inner Ratna Bhandar have been shifted. All shifted work may be done this evening at the temporary place, which is very secure. After that, ASI will repair the outer and inner Ratan Bhandars.”

On Sunday, July 14, the Ratna Bhandar of the Shri Jagannath Temple was reopened after over four decades. Special boxes were brought to the temple ahead of the reopening for the storage of the ornaments.

Puri Superintendent of Police -: This is the head police officer in Puri, responsible for maintaining law and order in the area.

Pinak Mishra -: He is the current Superintendent of Police in Puri, who ensured security during the shifting of the temple’s valuables.

Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb -: He is the King of Puri, a ceremonial title, and he plays an important role in the temple’s traditions and rituals.

over four decades -: This means more than 40 years. The Ratna Bhandar was last opened more than 40 years ago.
