Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan Return to Domestic Cricket

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced that Shreyas Iyer, an Indian middle-order batter, will be returning to domestic red-ball cricket. He will play for Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament on August 27 in Coimbatore. The MCA shared their excitement on social media, asking fans if they are excited to see Iyer in the MCA jersey.

Iyer’s last match for Mumbai was the final of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy against Vidarbha, where his impressive 95-run knock helped Mumbai secure their 42nd title. Recently, Iyer returned to the Indian team after losing his central contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) title with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as captain. However, his performance in the ODI series against Sri Lanka was disappointing, scoring only 38 runs in three innings.

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan, an Indian wicketkeeper-batter, will lead Jharkhand in the upcoming Buchi Babu Trophy in Tamil Nadu. The tournament starts on August 15. Kishan was initially not part of Jharkhand’s squad but will join the team in Chennai. A Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) official mentioned that Kishan’s inclusion was based on his readiness to return to cricket.

Kishan has had a challenging year, being excluded from the BCCI’s central contracts along with Iyer. He missed Ranji Trophy matches and was part of the Indian squad for the South Africa Test series but withdrew due to personal reasons. Kishan made his return to competitive cricket by playing for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in the 18th DY Patil T20 Cup 2024. He also played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024, scoring 320 runs in 14 matches.
