Shooter Arjun Babuta Seeks Support from Punjab Government
Indian shooter Arjun Babuta, who narrowly missed an Olympic medal in the men’s 10m Air Rifle event at the Paris Olympics, has expressed disappointment over the lack of support from the Punjab government. Despite promises from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and former Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Babuta has not received a government job or recognition for his achievements.
Babuta, who finished fourth in the event, returned to India with bronze medallist Sarabjot Singh and other shooters. He revealed that he had written a letter to the government but was told to wait. Babuta believes he should be given a certain rank based on his achievements and hopes the current Aam Aadmi Party government will provide job security.
Babuta also criticized the Punjab ministers for their role in the decline of sports in the state. He noted that while other state leaders welcomed their athletes, the Punjab CM and Sports Minister did not even greet them at the airport. Babuta remains hopeful for better support as he sets his sights on the LA 28 Olympics and the Shooting World Cup.
