Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Nirupam Criticizes Karnataka Minister’s Remarks on Veer Savarkar

In Mumbai, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam expressed strong disapproval of Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao’s comments about Veer Savarkar. Rao claimed that Savarkar, a Chitpavan Brahmin, consumed beef, which Nirupam called an insult to Savarkar. Nirupam warned the Congress party that continued insults to Savarkar could lead to backlash from the people of Maharashtra.

Ranjit Savarkar, Veer Savarkar’s grandson, accused the Congress of trying to defame Savarkar to divide Hindu society for electoral gain. He refuted the claims about Savarkar consuming beef and announced plans to file a defamation suit against Rao. Ranjit also noted that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi respected Savarkar’s policies.

Earlier, Minister Rao, at a book launch, stated that Savarkar’s ideology differed from Indian culture and that Mahatma Gandhi’s views should prevail. He described Savarkar as a modernist with different fundamental beliefs.
