Shiv Sena Leader Sanjay Raut Criticizes Government Over Missing CCTV Footage in Badlapur Incident
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 4: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Wednesday criticized the Eknath Shinde government for its silence on the Badlapur incident where two minor girls were allegedly sexually assaulted. He questioned the disappearance of CCTV footage from the school involved in the case.
Addressing a press conference, Raut said, “The Chief Minister (Eknath Shinde) and Home Minister (Devendra Fadnavis) are not talking about this, we are talking about this. Who made the CCTV footage disappear from the school? The head of the institution must have done this. Why did he do it? Just to save a constable or is there some other mystery behind it? What is the government doing?”
Last month, Maharashtra Minister and Shiv Sena leader Deepak Kesarkar confirmed that the CCTV footage of the last 15 days had gone missing from the school in Badlapur where the incident occurred. Kesarkar emphasized the importance of investigating the missing footage and suggested installing panic buttons in schools.
A report by the Women and Child Welfare Department and the Education Ministry on the Badlapur case was handed over to the Education Minister. Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court suggested forming a committee to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for police, hospitals, and schools when investigating cases of sexual assaults on minors.
On August 31, a Thane Court approved a request for a test identification parade of the accused in the Badlapur case. The parade was conducted in the presence of the Executive Magistrate, where the survivors identified the accused. The Special Investigating Team (SIT) prepared a psychological profile of the accused to aid further investigation.
The alleged sexual assault case has sparked outrage across the state, leading to multiple protests. On August 17, police arrested a school attendant for allegedly abusing the girls.
