Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 22: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anand Dubey has voiced strong opposition to the release of the Pakistani film ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ in India. He questioned the necessity of releasing a Pakistani film in India, emphasizing that India has its own talented artists and filmmakers.

Dubey expressed his concerns in a self-made video, stating, “What is the need to release a Pakistani film in India? Do we not have artists in our country? Do we not make films here?… Why should we spend our hard-earned money on Pakistani films so that they earn money and use that money to sponsor terrorism against India… How can the government allow the release of a Pakistani film? When it is decided that Pakistan is a terrorist country and it doesn’t want India to progress, then why do we have anything to do with them?”

Similarly, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has also opposed the film’s release. Ameya Khopkar, President of the MNS Cinema Wing, stated that they will not allow any Pakistani film or actors in India. He urged people in other states to oppose the release as well, warning of strong agitation if the film is screened.

Khopkar warned cinema owners about potential consequences, saying, “The owners of cinemas know very well that the glass in their theatres is very expensive… We will beat any Pakistan actor who dares to come to India… Art and politics are different but we don’t want the art at the cost of our soldiers… We will not let them come.”

Pakistani stars Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, who have previously worked in Indian cinema, star in ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’. The film, released in 2022, is set to be released in Indian theatres. A ban on Pakistani artists working in India was implemented after the Uri terror attack in 2016. In November 2023, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking a complete ban on Pakistani artists in India.
