Shimla Unites for Peace Amid Mosque Dispute
In Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, various organizations came together to hold a peace march in response to rising tensions over the alleged illegal construction of the Sanjauli Mosque. The march started at CTO Chowk and ended at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the Ridge, passing through Lower Bazaar.

Leaders Call for Peace
Sanjay Chauhan, former mayor and member of CPIM, expressed concerns about the current situation. He highlighted Shimla’s history of peaceful coexistence among various religious communities and stressed the need for collective action to preserve this harmony.
Chauhan said, “People of all religions have been living together in Shimla for a long time, but now efforts are being made to spoil the atmosphere due to the dispute.” He emphasized the importance of the goodwill march and appealed for peace.

Mohammad Piru, president of the Qutub Mosque, shared his experiences of living in Shimla for over 25 years. He noted that such unrest had never occurred before and called on authorities to take preventative measures to maintain peace.
Piru said, “The government and administration should verify all the people coming from outside so that the atmosphere here does not deteriorate.” He reiterated the core message of the march, which was to ensure that peace remains intact in Shimla.
