Shimla Celebrates 25 Years of Kargil Victory with Special Events

The Army Training Command in Shimla will celebrate ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas Rajat Jayanti Mahotsav’ at The Ridge on July 24-25 to commemorate 25 years of the Kargil victory. According to a press release from the PRO (Defence) Chandigarh, a multitude of events are being conducted to honor the Bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in Operation Vijay.

Motivational talks are also being conducted in schools at Shimla by Gallantry Award winners. The aim is to make the young generation aware of the importance of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ and recount the brave actions of the Indian Armed Forces.

A first-of-its-kind event in Shimla in recent times, the events being organized include Army Weapons and Equipment Display, free Medical Camp, ‘Know Your Army’ Exhibition, Motivation & Awareness Stalls, Poetry on Kargil Diwas by school children, pipe & symphony band, and Cultural & Musical presentation at Multipurpose Hall, Gaiety Theatre. Various stalls are also being established, including information on joining the Indian Army.

Every year, July 26 is observed as Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate the victory of Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan in the Kargil War. The Kargil War began on May 3, 1999, in the Kargil District of Jammu and Kashmir, India, and concluded on July 26, 1999, with a resounding victory of the Indian Armed Forces.

Army Training Command has planned to conduct various events to make the civil population relive the undaunted bravery and courage of Indian soldiers. The event is open to the general public.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Ladakh’s Drass on July 26 to mark the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
