Shima Kathuria Defends Husband in Old Rajinder Nagar Flood Incident
New Delhi, July 31: Shima Kathuria, wife of Manuj Kathuria, defended her husband against allegations of rash driving in the Old Rajinder Nagar incident. She stated that there was no rash driving and blamed civic authorities for their negligence, calling the incident a system failure.
Manuj Kathuria, a businessman, was driving his SUV through a rain-flooded street in Old Rajinder Nagar, allegedly causing water to flood the basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle, resulting in the deaths of three UPSC aspirants. Shima Kathuria emphasized that her husband was not speeding and was only trying to reach a safe spot.
Manuj’s lawyer, Rakesh Malhotra, held the library operators and civic authorities responsible for the incident. He argued that the negligence of operating a library in the basement and the waterlogging were the main issues.
Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar submitted an inquiry report to Minister Atishi, prepared by Superintending Engineer Ajay Kumar Nagpal. Delhi police arrested seven people, including the SUV driver, based on video evidence showing the vehicle speeding and damaging the coaching center’s gate. DCP M Harshvardhan confirmed the driver’s negligence, stating that the vehicle’s speed caused the gate to break, leading to the flooding.
