Sheikha Bodour Celebrates Winners at 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair 2024
The 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2024) kicked off with a grand ceremony where Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority, honored the winners of the SIBF 2024 Awards and the 7th Sharjah Translation Award (Turjuman). The event, themed ‘It Starts with a Book,’ runs until November 17 at Expo Centre Sharjah.
Celebrating Creativity and Knowledge
Sheikha Bodour emphasized the importance of creativity in Sharjah’s cultural values, stating, “Honoring exceptional creativity embodies one of Sharjah’s core cultural values.” She congratulated the winners and reaffirmed Sharjah’s commitment to supporting translation, authorship, and publishing.
Awards and Recognitions
The Sharjah Translation Award was given to the Turkish translation of ‘The Ring of the Dove’ by Ibn Hazm Al-Andalusi, translated by Dr. Mehmet Hakki Sucin. Awad bin Hasum Al Darmaki won the Best Emirati Novel for ‘Ahd Al Jerah.’ Other notable winners included Ali Al Abdan, Kareem Maatouq, Dr. Fatima Al Braiki, and Issa Nasri.
International awards went to Elizabeth Loudon for ‘A Stranger in Baghdad’ and Siddharth Kak and Lila Kak Bhan for ‘Love, Exile, Redemption.’ Publisher awards recognized Dar Ashjar Publishing, Meskiliani Publishing, and DC Books.
