Shatrughan Sinha Supports Mamata Banerjee Amid RG Kar Medical College Controversy

TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha has voiced his support for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in light of allegations that she offered money to the family of a rape and murder victim at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Sinha stated, “I don’t have any reason to believe anyone else other than Mamata Banerjee. I had already said that what had happened was a heinous crime… I condemn the act and hope that this doesn’t happen to anyone or any family.”

Sinha emphasized that it is inappropriate to hold any Chief Minister responsible for such crimes, especially when the matter is under the supervision of the Supreme Court and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He added, “People were saying that she is the minister of the (health) department and needs to take action and she did take action against the cases.”

Earlier, during an administrative review meeting in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee dismissed the accusations as “slander” and a conspiracy involving the Centre and Left parties. She clarified, “I have never offered money to the deceased doctor’s family; this is nothing but slander. I told the deceased doctor’s parents that if they wanted to do something in their daughter’s memory, our government was with them.”

Banerjee also mentioned that Kolkata Commissioner of Police, Vineet Goyal, offered to resign after the RG Kar protests, but she decided to retain him due to the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.
