New Delhi [India], August 30: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has criticized the government following the collapse of a 35-foot-tall statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Rajkot Fort in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district on August 26. Tharoor stated that the incident reflects poorly on the government’s commitment to serious results and suggested corruption might be involved in such projects.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his regret over the incident, apologizing to the people of Maharashtra. He emphasized the importance of respecting cultural values and the great sons of Mother India.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that the state government is taking swift action to reconstruct the statue and has formed two committees to investigate the collapse.
