Shashi Tharoor and Congress Leaders Discuss Exit Polls in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir

In New Delhi, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed skepticism about exit polls predicting a Congress comeback in Haryana and an advantage in Jammu and Kashmir. Tharoor stated, “We do not take the exit polls very seriously. This time the news is good. We are getting information that we will win. Everything will be clear on October 8.”

Contrary to Tharoor’s cautious stance, other Congress leaders showed confidence. KC Venugopal, Congress General Secretary, claimed that people in both regions have rejected the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ideology, predicting Congress’s victory in Haryana and a successful alliance with the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir. Venugopal emphasized a shift in northern India towards Congress.

Congress leader Harish Rawat echoed this sentiment, stating that voters in Jammu and Kashmir chose peace and development through the NC-Congress alliance, while Haryana voters would respond to BJP’s past disrespect by electing Congress.

On the other hand, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed confidence in BJP’s ability to form a government independently, stating, “We have all the arrangements.”

Exit polls suggested a strong performance for Congress in Haryana, with predictions of winning over 50 of the 90 seats. In Jammu and Kashmir, Axis My India predicted a hung assembly, with the NC-Congress alliance slightly ahead of BJP. The majority mark is 46 seats, and no party is predicted to surpass it.

Haryana’s single-phase polling concluded with a 65.65% voter turnout, while Jammu and Kashmir’s elections occurred in three phases. Results for both states will be announced on October 8.
