The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) is hosting the 11th Sharjah International Library Conference (SILC) from November 9th to 10th. This event, organized with the American Library Association (ALA), will take place alongside the 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair at Expo Centre Sharjah. It offers both in-person and virtual participation, making it accessible to a global audience.
SILC 2024 is the only ALA-affiliated conference outside the United States, providing a unique platform for library professionals worldwide. Over 400 experts from more than 30 countries, including 100 librarians from the UAE, will attend. The conference theme, ‘Integrating AI into Library Services and Advancing AI Literacy,’ focuses on how AI can enhance library efficiency and services.
The event will feature workshops, panels, and case studies on topics like sustainable development and school library innovations. Sessions will cover AI’s role in library management, user experience, and marketing strategies. Participants will learn about creating creative learning environments and teaching critical thinking skills.
Networking opportunities include the Librarian’s Lounge and Exhibitor Zone, where attendees can connect with vendors and explore new library products. SILC aims to inspire innovation in library services and reinforce Sharjah’s status as a cultural hub.
