Sharjah Learning Disabilities Conference: Innovative Solutions for Shared Challenges

The Sharjah Center for Learning Disabilities (SCLD) has launched the fourth edition of its Learning Disabilities Conference, themed “Shared Challenges, Innovative Solutions.” The event is held at the Sharjah Education Academy under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, and attended by Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi.

Conference Focus and Activities

The two-day conference covers four main topics: assessment and diagnosis, scientific and technological research, support and empowerment, and educational interventions. It features 20 scientific papers and four workshops led by international experts. The aim is to explore innovative strategies for diagnosing and supporting students with learning disabilities globally.

Collaborations and Sponsorships

The event is organized with the Sharjah Education Academy and Princess Tharwat College in Jordan. The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the golden sponsor, while the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority is the media sponsor. Silver sponsors include the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Centro Sharjah Hotel, and Air Arabia.

Key Highlights

Hanadi Al Suwaidi, Director of SCLD, opened the conference, which included a visual presentation titled “Invisible Challenges.” A significant agreement was signed between SCLD and an Egyptian research team led by Dr. Samira Bakr to develop an assessment tool for young children at risk of learning disabilities.

Commitment to Education

Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi emphasized the conference’s alignment with the UAE’s Vision 2071, focusing on education as a key pillar. Dr. Hanadi Al Suwaidi highlighted the conference’s role in addressing assessment, diagnosis, technology integration, and empowerment strategies.

Day One Highlights

The first day featured panels on psychological and educational assessment and scientific research. Discussions included digital storytelling’s impact on speaking abilities and AI’s role in diagnosing reading disorders. A workshop provided parents with support skills.
