Dubai [UAE], August 13: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) recently met with a delegation from the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER) to explore ways to enhance participation in trade exhibitions and foster communication between business leaders. The meeting aimed to boost investments, strengthen economic cooperation, and expand joint exports and investments between the two countries.

Key Participants

The meeting was held at the Sharjah Chamber’s headquarters and included Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of the Chamber, and Mario Saenz, Director of Exports at PROCOMER. Fatima Khalifa Al-Muqrab, Head of the International Relations Department at SCCI, along with other officials, also attended.

Invitations and Future Events

The Sharjah Chamber invited the Costa Rican delegation to participate in the Emirates Perfumes and Oud Exhibition in October 2024. In return, the Costa Rican delegation invited the Sharjah Chamber to visit Costa Rica’s stands at the World of Coffee and GITEX exhibitions in Dubai.

Economic Partnership

Mohammed Al Awadi highlighted the diverse prospects for commercial cooperation and export enhancement with Costa Rica, thanks to the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two nations. Bilateral non-oil trade between the UAE and Costa Rica reached $65 million in 2023.

Sectoral Growth

Sharjah is experiencing growth in key sectors such as logistics, technology, and media, aligning with its strategic goals of attracting foreign investments and promoting innovation. The Costa Rican delegation showcased opportunities in technology, gaming, Artificial Intelligence, and media, and expressed aspirations to increase trade cooperation with Sharjah, particularly in the food industry.

Commitment to Collaboration

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration between business communities and urged businesses to capitalize on available opportunities in trade and investment, fostering sustainable economic growth for both nations.
