Sharad Pawar Discusses Maharashtra Elections, Badlapur Incident, and Shivaji Maharaj Statue Collapse

Kolhapur (Maharashtra) [India], September 4: Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), spoke at a press conference in Kolhapur about various issues, including the upcoming Maharashtra elections, the Badlapur incident, and the collapse of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Maharashtra Elections

Pawar stated that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance has no disputes over the Chief Minister’s post. He emphasized that a decision would be made after the elections, which are expected to take place later this year. Pawar expressed confidence that the MVA would secure a majority in the legislative assembly elections.

Badlapur Incident

Addressing the Badlapur incident, where young girls were tortured, Pawar condemned the act and criticized the government’s response. He mentioned that many people protested against the incident, and cases were imposed on several protesters, which he deemed unfair.

Shivaji Maharaj Statue Collapse

Pawar also spoke about the collapse of a 35-foot-tall statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg district. He criticized the decision to assign the statue’s construction to Jaydeep Apte, who had limited experience. Pawar argued that the statue’s fall was not due to strong winds but rather poor construction.

Historical Accuracy

Pawar addressed statements made by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding Shivaji Maharaj’s actions in Surat. He stressed the importance of accurate historical representation and respecting historians’ opinions.

Caste Census

On the topic of a caste-based census, Pawar supported the idea, stating it would create more opportunities for smaller communities. He agreed with the RSS’s stance that the census should be used for the betterment of lagging communities rather than for political purposes.
