Sharad Pawar and Opposition Walk Out of Rajya Sabha Over PM Modi’s Remarks

On Wednesday, Sharad Pawar, the chief of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SCP), expressed his disappointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the chairman of the Rajya Sabha for not respecting Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of Opposition. Pawar emphasized that Kharge holds a constitutional post and deserves respect.

The Congress-led Opposition, including Sonia Gandhi and Sharad Pawar, staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha. This action was in response to PM Modi’s controversial remarks during his reply to the ‘Motion of Thanks’ on the President’s address. Kharge accused the Prime Minister of lying and misleading people, particularly about the Constitution.

Kharge pointed out that the RSS, in 1950, opposed the Constitution and burnt effigies of Ambedkar and Nehru. He criticized the PM for claiming that the Congress was against the Constitution.

During his speech, PM Modi indirectly blamed the Gandhi family for Congress’s poor performance in the recent general elections. He suggested that the family pushes other leaders to take the blame to protect themselves. Modi’s remarks led to the Opposition’s walkout.
