Shambhavi Choudhary, a Lok Janshakti Party MP, has declared that her main focus will be to amplify the voices of women and young people in Parliament. She stated, “Raising the voices of women and the youth in the Parliament will be my priority. I am a Dalit and I believe that people in our community are not as privileged as I am as I have been able to reach this place. I will try to become a strong voice for them and will fulfil the demands of the people of Samastipur.”

Choudhary, who hails from Bihar and Samastipur, expressed her enthusiasm to serve in the Parliament. In the 18th Lok Sabha elections, she defeated Congress’ Sunny Hazari by a margin of 1,87,251 votes, securing 5,79,786 votes against Hazari’s 3,92,535 votes.

Earlier today, the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha began with key leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, taking their oaths as Members of Parliament. Prime Minister Modi, addressing the media, criticized the 1975 Emergency, calling it a “blot” on democracy.

“Tomorrow is 25th June. 25th June marks 50 years of the blot that was put on the democracy of India. The new generation of India will never forget that the Constitution of India was completely rejected, every part of the Constitution was torn to pieces, the country was turned into a prison, and democracy was completely suppressed,” PM Modi said.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders protested the appointment of Bhartruhari Mahtab as Pro-tem Speaker, arguing that the senior-most Dalit MP, Kodikkunnil Suresh of Congress, should have been appointed instead.
