Shakib Al Hasan’s Farewell Test Series Against South Africa

Former Bangladesh cricket captain Shakib Al Hasan is set to play his final Test series against South Africa. This marks his farewell from Test cricket. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has given the green light for his inclusion in the squad, as confirmed by selector Hannan Sarkar. Shakib wanted to play his last Test at home, and the BCB, along with government considerations, made it possible.

Squad Details

Shakib is one of four spin-bowling options, alongside Taijul Islam, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Nayeem Hasan. The squad is similar to those from recent tours to Pakistan and India, except for fast bowler Khaled Ahmed. The opening pair of Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan remains unchanged, with Mahmudul Hasan Joy as a backup. Mominul Haque and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto are expected to bat at No. 3 and 4, respectively.

Upcoming Matches

The series against South Africa includes two Tests, with the first in Mirpur on October 21 and the second in Chattogram on October 29. This series is the first under interim coach Phil Simmons, following Chandika Hathurusinghe’s dismissal.
