Shaheen Afridi Dropped from Pakistan’s Second Test Against Bangladesh

Coach Jason Gillespie Confirms Decision

Rawalpindi, Pakistan – August 29: Pakistan’s head coach Jason Gillespie announced that star bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will not be playing in the second Test match against Bangladesh. This decision follows Pakistan’s significant 10-wicket loss in the first match of the two-game Test series.

In the first Test, Afridi took two wickets but conceded 96 runs, averaging 48. Gillespie mentioned that the team had a ‘good conversation’ with Afridi, who ‘understands and appreciates’ the decision. Afridi is working on improving his bowling with Azhar Mahmood and has been given time to spend with his family as he recently became a father.

Recap of the First Test Match

The first Test in Rawalpindi had a delayed start due to a wet outfield but turned into an exciting game by the fifth day. Despite only 41 overs being played on the first day, Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel scored centuries on Day 2, helping Pakistan declare their innings at 448/6.

Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim and Shadnam Islam performed exceptionally well, with Rahim scoring 191 and Islam 93. Pakistan struggled on Day 5, being bowled out for 146, with only Rizwan showing resistance with a half-century. Bangladesh’s spinners, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan, took crucial wickets, leading to Bangladesh needing just 30 runs to win, which they achieved in under seven overs without losing a wicket.
