Shafi Burfat Appeals to SCO on Human Rights Violations in Pakistan
Shafi Burfat, the Chairman of Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), has called on the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to address severe human rights violations in Pakistan. He highlighted the struggles of the Sindhi, Pashtun, and Baloch communities, who face repression under religious pretexts. In a letter to SCO members, Burfat compared their plight to historical genocides, citing state-sponsored terrorism and oppressive policies that undermine their rights.
Burfat condemned the military’s involvement in violence against political activists, including abductions and murders by state forces. He drew parallels to the 1971 Bangladesh genocide, warning of similar patterns in Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He accused Pakistan’s ruling elite of using religion to dominate these regions and silence dissent.
Burfat also criticized Pakistan’s support for extremist groups, claiming they threaten regional stability. He urged SCO members to reconsider Pakistan’s membership, as its actions contradict the SCO’s peace principles. Burfat called for international support for the Sindhi, Pashtun, and Baloch people, urging action against Pakistan’s atrocities.
