Shafali Verma’s Amazing Double Hundred in India vs South Africa Women’s Test Match
Rohtak (Haryana) [India], June 29: Shafali Verma scored an incredible 205 runs on the first day of the only Test between India and South Africa women at MA Chidambaram. Her father, Sanjeev Verma, shared the family’s joy, saying, ‘We are happy, it has all happened because of the people who supported her and helped her.’
Shafali’s innings included 23 fours and eight sixes, and she was run out in the 75th over. She reached her double hundred in just 194 balls, surpassing Sutherland’s previous record of 248 balls. Shafali is now the second Indian woman to score a double hundred in Test cricket, following Mithali Raj’s 214 runs against England 22 years ago.
Shafali said, ‘I always enjoy my range hitting and try and back my strengths. Smriti always tells me to follow my instincts, especially when playing against the spinners.’
India’s Women in Blue, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring 525 runs for the loss of four wickets in 98 overs. Smriti Mandhana scored 149 runs, Jemimah Rodrigues 55 runs, Harmanpreet Kaur 42* runs, and Richa Ghosh 43* runs. For South Africa, Delmi Tucker took two wickets, and Nadine de Klerk took one.
