Senthil Balaji Visits ED Office in Chennai
Senthil Balaji, the Tamil Nadu Minister for Electricity, Non-Conventional Energy Development, Prohibition, and Excise, visited the Enforcement Directorate’s office in Nungambakkam, Chennai. This visit was part of the bail conditions set by the Supreme Court after his release from Puzhal Central Prison on September 26. Balaji was arrested on June 14 in connection with a money laundering case linked to a cash-for-jobs scam during his tenure as the Transport Minister in the AIADMK government from 2011 to 2015.
Upon his release, Balaji claimed the case against him was politically motivated and expressed gratitude to DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. He arrived at the ED office in his personal car, not using the ministerial vehicle. The case against him is based on three FIRs filed in 2018, alleging his involvement in the scam. Balaji joined the DMK in December 2018 and became the Electricity Minister after the party’s victory in May 2021. Recently, he was sworn in as a minister in MK Stalin’s government during a cabinet reshuffle.
