Senior Citizen Arrested for Assaulting 10-Year-Old Girl in Pune
A 67-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in a rural area near Pune, Maharashtra. The incident came to light during a ‘good touch, bad touch’ session at the girl’s school. Authorities informed her parents, who then filed a police complaint, leading to the man’s arrest.
The accused had stopped the girl on her way to school a few days ago, offering her chocolate and trying to get close. On Friday, he took her to his home when she was returning from school and raped her. The police are currently investigating the case further. The man has been charged under relevant sections of the BNS and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In a related incident, the accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case was sent to judicial custody for 14 days by the Kalyan Court. Amid the outrage over the Badlapur case, Maharashtra Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar suggested installing panic buttons in schools to ensure women’s safety. The special investigation team (SIT) for the Badlapur case registered an FIR against the school authorities for not complying with Section 19 of the POCSO Act, which mandates reporting any sexual assault against minors to the police.
