Stand-Up Paddle Challenge 2024: Day 1 Highlights

Champions Crowned

On the first day of the Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) Challenge 2024, held at Pirappanvalasi Beach in Palk Bay, Tamil Nadu’s Sekar Patchai and Tanvi Jagdish emerged as champions in the Men’s and Women’s Technical categories, respectively. The event was organized by Quest Academy under the Surfing Federation of India.

Men’s Technical Category

Sekar Patchai defended his title with a timing of 21:08.48 minutes in the 4km race. Fellow Tamil Nadu paddlers Manikandan M and Santhosan secured second and third places with timings of 22:10.07 minutes and 24:44.48 minutes, respectively.

Women’s Technical Category

Tanvi Jagdish won the Women’s Technical category with a timing of 28:16.29 minutes, beating former champion Monika P, who finished at 30:32.63 minutes. Vijayalakshmi Irulappan secured third place with a time of 31:19.29 minutes.

SUP Technical Mixed Groms

Karnataka’s Akash Pujar won the SUP Technical Mixed Groms category with a timing of 11:06.15 minutes. Tamil Nadu’s Muthukumar N and Karnataka’s Praveen Pujar finished second and third with timings of 11:25.88 minutes and 11:29.81 minutes, respectively.

Semi-Finals Highlights

The championship also featured semi-finals in various categories. In the SUP Sprint Men (200 M) category, Sekar Patchai and M Manikandan topped their heats. The Women’s Sprint category saw Anandi Aarthi finishing first, followed by Tanvi Jagdish and Vijayalakshmi Irulappan.

Upcoming Finals

The second and final day of the competition will feature finals in eight categories, including SUP Distance Men, SUP Distance Women, and SUP Sprint Mixed Defence (Open). Over 120 stand-up paddlers from across India are participating in this two-day event.

The championship is supported by the Tamil Nadu Surfing Association and the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT). Quest Academy is the organizing authority.
