SUP Challenge 2024: Sekar Patchai and Anandi Arthi Shine in Tamil Nadu
The SUP Challenge 2024 saw impressive performances from athletes in Tamil Nadu. Sekar Patchai dominated the men’s category, winning all titles in the National Stand-Up Paddling Championship. He secured victories in the distance, sprint, and technical races.
In the women’s division, Tanvi Jagdish won the newly introduced Distance Race, achieving a double victory. Local favorite Anandi Arthi dethroned defending champion Monika P to win the Sprint race with an impressive timing of 2:08.43.
The two-day national championship concluded at Pirappanvalasi Beach, Rameswaram. Jehan Driver, an international SUP coach and General Secretary of the Surfing Federation of India, expressed his delight at the event’s success. He highlighted the rising popularity of water sports like Stand-Up Paddling and thanked the Tamil Nadu Government and sponsors for their support.
Defending champion Monika P and strong contender Tanvi Jagdish were stunned by 14-year-old Anandi Arthi from the local Pirappanvalasai village. Anandi’s victory in the Sprint Women’s race filled her with immense joy and pride.
Sekar Patchai also emerged victorious in the distance (12 KM) men’s category, defending his title from the previous edition. He finished the race with a timing of 1:26:40.62, followed by Manikandan M and Akash Pujar from Karnataka.
