Security Tightened Outside AAP Headquarters as Party Protests Arvind Kejriwal’s Arrest

New Delhi, June 29: Security has been increased outside the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headquarters in Delhi. This comes ahead of a planned protest by the party against the arrest of their leader and Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal.

Statements from AAP Leaders

Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj stated that the coordination between national agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) indicates that the Central Government wants to keep Arvind Kejriwal in jail. He said, “We will raise our voice against it in the whole nation.”

Nationwide Protest Announced

The AAP announced a nationwide protest against Kejriwal’s arrest. This decision was made during a meeting at the party headquarters led by AAP’s National General Secretary (Organisation), Sandeep Pathak. The meeting was attended by top AAP leaders, including MPs, MLAs, and councillors.

Allegations Against the BJP Government

Sandeep Pathak accused the BJP’s central government of misusing central investigation agencies for political vendetta. He claimed that the CBI did not make Kejriwal an accused in the liquor case for two years but acted when it seemed he would get bail from the Supreme Court. Pathak said, “The BJP wants to keep Arvind Kejriwal in jail by any means, keep him away from elections and finish the AAP.”

Public Support

Pathak expressed confidence that the people of Delhi support Kejriwal and will fight against the alleged injustice. The AAP claims that the trial court granted bail to Kejriwal in the liquor case, but the ED got a stay on the bail from the High Court. The stay was about to be lifted when the CBI arrested Kejriwal.

Background of the Case

The CBI had called Kejriwal for questioning as a witness on April 16, 2023, but did not make him an accused for 14 months. The AAP alleges that the CBI has no evidence and that Kejriwal has been falsely implicated at the behest of the BJP government.
