Security Forces Complete Aranpur-Jagargunda Road in Naxal-Hit Sukma, Chhattisgarh
Security forces have successfully completed the construction of the Aranpur-Jagargunda road in the naxal-affected Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. This significant achievement was announced by Bastar Range Inspector General of Police (IG) Sundarraj P.
Historical Significance of Jagargunda
IG Sundarraj P highlighted that Jagargunda was once known as the largest market in Asia for tamarind sales. However, the market lost its prominence due to the rise in naxal activities.
Efforts and Sacrifices
The construction of the road took five to six years and involved extensive operations by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police. Several security personnel sacrificed their lives during this period. New camps, such as Kamal post and Kamarguda, were established to support the construction.
Strategic Importance
The road connects Jagargunda from all directions: north (Aranpur-Jagargunda), east (Dornapal-Jagargunda), west (Awapalli-Jagargunda), and south (Golapalli-Kistaram-Jagargunda). This connectivity is expected to restore Jagargunda’s economic vitality and improve local employment opportunities.
Safety Measures
To ensure safety during construction, security forces conducted extensive demining exercises, recovering around 56 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Despite these efforts, over 26 security personnel lost their lives.

The completion of the Aranpur-Jagargunda road marks the first step in a larger plan to revitalize the area. The road is already being used by locals for routine movement and is expected to link the local population with the outer world, generating employment opportunities and fostering economic growth.
