Authorities in Nepal have resumed the search operation for two passenger buses that were swept away by a landslide into the Trishuli River. The incident occurred on Friday morning, and the buses are believed to have been carrying about 63 people.

Search Teams and Rescue Efforts

Search teams and rescue personnel from the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police started their search in the Trishuli River alongside the Mugling-Narayangadh road section on Saturday morning. Bheshraj Rijal, DSP at District Police Office, Chitwan, stated that teams have been deployed for the search. He mentioned that the operation is expected to be easier because the water level has receded and the rainfall has stopped.

More than a hundred personnel, including divers, have been deployed. The team of Nepali security agencies scoured a radius of 5km from the spot where the buses were swept away but couldn’t trace them on Friday. The operation was halted at 6 pm due to nightfall and resumed after a pause of over 12 hours.

Details of the Incident

The landslide swept away the Kathmandu-bound Angel bus and the Ganpati Deluxe bus, which was heading from Kathmandu to Rautahat’s Gaur. Preliminary reports suggest that there were 24 people on the bus heading to Kathmandu and 41 people on the other bus. Three passengers on the Ganpati Deluxe managed to escape by jumping out of the vehicle.
