SCO Meeting in Islamabad: Leaders from China, Russia, and More to Attend
The 23rd Council of the Heads of Government (CHG) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is set to take place in Islamabad, Pakistan, from October 15 to 16. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will chair the meeting, which will see participation from key leaders including China’s Prime Minister Li Qiang, Russia’s Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, and others from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber and India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will also attend.
The summit will include special guests like the Foreign Ministers and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Turkmenistan, and Mongolia’s Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai as an observer. Discussions will focus on the SCO’s performance, collaboration in commerce, economy, environment, and sociocultural links. Leaders will approve the budget and make decisions to enhance cooperation among member states.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar highlighted the importance of the meeting for Pakistan’s global image and regional collaboration. He confirmed that preparations are complete and expressed the country’s honor in hosting the event. EAM Jaishankar will lead a delegation to the summit, emphasizing that his visit is solely for the multilateral event, not for India-Pakistan relations.
